I can tell you what I think since worked at differ facilities (private for profit vs state medical centers & private hospitals). CDI staff can be divided in inpatient vs outpatient reviews. Develop an audit check list per medical specialty, (work with payer billers on this too if at same site). Create handbooks online and hard copy as resource to guide coding staff and CDI personnel. Also for new staff of clinical & coding create orientation list to ensure cover each topic related to medical coding, terms per specialty, acronyms, regs, EHR templates used . Check online for CMS resources and documentation auditing book by Sherri Pope CCS, CMPA . Ongoing learning every 6 month assign article to read then discuss related to documentation regarding certain medicine service, Etc. Also gather & review IT report to review differ payer denial errors
