Good Afternoon!

For Celestone (Injection, betamethasone acetate 3 mg and betamethasone sodium phosphate 3 mg), how many mg is in one unit?

I've been told it was 6 mg = 1 unit. I've seen past forums say 3 mg = 1 unit. And Codify has the bill unit as 5 (image below).

Does anyone have an answer and/or source I can show my providers?

The Codify Lay Terms says "One unit of this code represents up to 3 mg of betamethasone acetate and 3 mg of betamethasone sodium phosphate to be delivered via intramuscular, intradermal (not subcutaneous), intra–articular, or intravenous injection." I pulled up the first NDC # on that list for Celestone 00085-4320-01. It's a vial of 5mL of Celestone and the strength is 6mg / mL (6mg strength for each mL volume given). To me, that means that 1 mL from that vial would be 1 unit (3mg betamethasone acetate and 3mg betamethasone sodium phosphate). I think the chart from Codify has 5 bill units because that NDC # has 5mL in the entire vial. So, giving the entire vial would be 5 units. Celestone.jpg
