Wiki Certification Exam - CDEO/CDEI

I saw that for the CDEO & CDEI certification exams, in addition to the three standard coding books, you can bring a fourth resource book.

What wild card book did y'all choose?

There is not an extra reference allowed for either exam. This is the current 2024 document for allowed materials: https://aapcmarketing.s3.amazonaws.com/Exams/Examinee_Instructions.pdf

The CDEO allows the CPT, ICD-10-CM and HCPC book: https://www.aapc.com/certifications/cdeo/taking-the-cdeo-exam

The CDEI allows the ICD-10-CM and ICD-10-PCS: https://www.aapc.com/certifications/cdei

I've taken both exams. When I took the CDEI, it was part of the beta testing process and we were not allowed an additional reference.

When I took the CDEO, it was in person & paper/Scantron. We were allowed to use the Clinical Documentation Reference Guide.

It's possible that the reference guide is now built into the exam tools for the CDEO. My understanding is that the electronic exams have many of the tools built into the exam. If you're looking to take the CDEO electronically (whether in person or live remote proctor), I would ask whether there are any reference materials available within the exam.

I have a feeling that may be the case, but I do not know for sure.

Oh boy you are right, thats no longer listed as acceptable. I swuney it said another book could be used during the exam at one point.

The electronic exam resources are different from what the resources for the paper books used to be.

You might be thinking of the paper exams where you had to carry in anything you were going to use. With the electronic exams, there is the capability to make resources available in the exam functionality.

My understanding is that examinees will still have access to the same types of resources, but I'd encourage anyone who plans to take an exam to confirm that.
