Hello, I have an interesting situation. I have been offered the chance to update a doctor's superbill codes to ICD10. This is the first time and I do not know how much to charge for the service. I'm thinking of charging on a per-code basis; that is count the number of ICD10 codes generated and charge say, $1 per code. I feel this is fairer than an hourly fee because the client will not end up paying more due to variable productivity concerns and I can take my time in doing a thorough job. Any suggestions will be highly appreciated. Thanks

I think $5 per code is unrealistic. I would set an hourly charge and work it that way. Depending on your level of expertise you should have a decent hourly charge. Such as $25 per hour.

It is a good idea to give the provider a fixed amount because, as you say, the client shouldn't have to pay more because it's your first time so it might take you longer. Likewise, if you've done 100 are really fast, you would still deserve to earn a fair rate.
