radiology experts out there, help, please.

When the patient has an MRI or CT with contrast, and the tech uses only a portion of the vial or prefilled syringes, can we bill for the entire vial or syringe, even though what is left is wasted?

Please I would appreciate any and all advice.

Thanks

I believe there are several types of vials. Some are single dose which you would charge for the total amount because even if the whole vial isn't used it's been only opened for that pt. Others are multi dose, in which case you only charge for the amount of dose you use. Our clients usually use MD for multi dose or SD for single dose on the chart. I hope that helps
