We have a patient with renal/pelvis cancer. The patient has had a Nephrostomy tube placed even though kidney and bladder are still functional. We are going to administer his chemotherapy directly into his Nephrostomy tube and then he will pass it through his bladder. I am wondering if anyone has had a similar experience and what administration code to use for the chemotherapy. The nurse will have to manually push the chemo through the tube for 2 hours.

Thank you

I have never coded chemotherapy through a Nephrostomy tube before, but saying that, my first question would be how is the order written? IV push or IV infusion. Once you answer the my question, I will be able to response.

code

look at code 50391 instillation of theraputic agent (eg: anticarcinogenic) through established nephrostomy tube

not a time based code so would code just once. there is another for directly into the bladder 51720

:D
