Does anyone know a good code to use for a preschooler biting other kids? I thought about using 312.01, but I am afraid to label the kid so early. The Dr. says the parents think he is biting b/c he has a sppech problem. Again, I do not think that is the best DX. Or should I just use 312.9? I feel like that is such a blanket code. Any insight would be helpful! Thanks

do not code what the physician does not document. It is not up to the coder to assign a conduct disorder code if the physician documents a behavior of biting which may be related to a speech problem. I would need to know what the physician stated to give you my opinion on the dx.

JodyLynn:
Could you possible use V61.20 Concern about behavior of child. It is normally a counseling code for parent-child problems, it is unspecified.
