confusing question but I have searched and searched and cant find a thing!! We have an orthopedic physician that leases space out of town from a chiropractor. We travel to that office once a week. The chiropractor has an xray machine. The chiropractor does not bill Medicare for xrays because they are not covered by a chiropractor. We are wondering if our Orthopedic physician can bill the technical component to Medicare even though we do not own the equipment. Or......could the chiropractor bill Medicare the technical component and list our Ortho as the ordering and get it covered that way???? I would appreciate any feedback! Thank you!!!!

Yes, the ortho can bill the professional componant in this case, since the DC isn't billing anything.

If the DC is billing globally, say if the patient has Blue Cross that pays xrays, then the ortho won't bill anything.

Medicare will not pay for Xrays billed by a chiropractor but the Ortho can bill for the technical under Medicare Guidelines.

No, the ortho should not be billing -TC if he/she does not own the equipment, regardless of whether or not the chiro is billing. The chiro may be able to get paid for the technical if they provide documentation. Hope this helps!
