" Using a chordal sparing technique, mitral valve replacement was performed. The posterior leaflet was incorp into the sewing ring. The anterior leaflet was divided in half and excess leaflet excised. The medial and and lateral chordae tendonae were incorp into the valve sewing ring. Sutures passed thru native valve annulus...A 27mm Magna Ease pericardial bioprosthesis was selected. Sutures passed thru prosthetic valve ring which was lowered into place."

I was told if the op note states chordal sparing technique, then it is a Valvuloplasty. ??

I guess I'm looking for a clearer explanation of the code and what that entails.
CPT 33430 for MVR states "All leaflet tissue and its attached chords are cut out."

As long as there was a complete replacement of the mitral valve with another valve, whether chordal sparing or not, would it be coded as 33430?
