Patient came into ER and saw Physician A who performed procedure 27560. This has a 90 day global. Patient came into the clinic the following day and saw Physician B for follow up of the procedure. E/M for Physician B is being denied because in global period. Is there a modifier that can be added so Physician B can get paid for his time?

Do Physician A and Physician B bill under the same group?

They are normally both Family Practice but they have different tax id's.

I work for an Ophthalmology practice that often comanages post op care with outside optometrists. When we bill for the surgeon, we have to append a modifier 54 to the surgery code, so the optometrist can get paid for the post operative care. The optometrist then puts a modifier 55 on their charges. I'm not sure if the same rules apply to your situation, but it may be something to explore.
