This would depend what the inject is for but this is sacrococcygeal joint injection CPT 20605

The diagnosis dictated was Sacrococcygeal disorders and lumbar spondylosis (M53.3, M47.816)

with ultrasound its 20606. without ultasound its 20605 and if fluoro was used, add 77002

What advice is there for denials? Payers from more than one insurance have rejected coding 20605 for this injection unless laterality is indicated.

Did you add the J code injection and amount given by nurse? This should all be documented..time, nurse name, type of J code, body placement and amount of drug. But order comes from physician..is his name on claim too?

We are also now having issues with UHC payers because they have a policy for CPT codes that require a laterality modifier in which 20605 is included. What payers are you receiveng rejects/denials from? We're unsure how to handle this.

I keep having this denial for a coccyx injection with Anthem. They continually use laterality as the denial reason. We have used the procedure note for the appeal with no luck, they uphold the denial. Has anyone found a way to handle this?
