I was on hold with an VERY well known insurance company for about 40 minutes. I was asking about a claim denial with these 4 Dx's:
1) 496
2) 799.02
3) 786.09
4) 780.57
The woman on the other end asked me if the patient is dead, and the answer was no. She said there is no way a person can still be alive and have DX code 799.02 Hypoxemia. She said for all the codes starting with 799.0_ the patient dies. I said eventually they will from their disease.
Has anyone else run into this kind of denial with 799.02 or any of the 799.0_ codes? Sorry, but I laughed and said I will have to tell my doctor his patient is dead.
