Normal healthy patient has to do a important presentation . Doctor gave Rx clonazapam . How do I code? I do not want to code 300.23 (I do not want to label patient has some time of mental disorder)Is it OK to code 799.21?

Any suggestions??

Thank you

Coding is dependent on provider documentation. If the provider clearly documented fear of public speaking, you must code 300.23. This code is listed in the nonpsychotic mental disorders and would be appropriate for a person needing medication to treat fear of a public presenation.

I believe the statistics show that a majority of the general public has this problem. That being the case, I would not "worry" that a patient is being labeled. A coder's job is not to diagnose, but to code what the provider documents. In some cases even the providers do not agree with one another.
