Is anyone familiar with providing smoking cessation by phone? I'm looking for the correct CPT code to use. There is a research article on providing telehealth treatment for tobacco dependent cancer patients during the Covid 19 outbreak in New York City, but its focus is not on billing/coding.
My NPPs want to extend smoking cessation sessions to our patients (hem/onc) who have difficulty getting to the office and/or are quarantining due to pandemic. Many of the patients do not have video capabilities. We are not in a rural health area or FQHC. I haven't found a usable CPT to use in place of 99406/99407 which are for in-person sessions or telehealth for qualified centers. 99441-99413 are to replace an EM visit. Behavioral health phone codes 98966-98968 I believe are for mental health professionals.
