Its been many years since I have worked in DME but it was my understanding that you would bill using 496 (COPD) even if the CMN had one of the forms of COPD vs the actual wording. For example if the doc wrote Emphysema, Asthma, and chronic bronchitis we billed under the 496 code per the guidlines in the MAC website. I don't think you need the O2 dependence code, the cmn covers the dependency, but you should look to your DME MAC guidelines and see what they say.

V46.2 Other dependence on machines, supplemental oxygen.
Is this an accurate diagnosis for your patient? The DME provider gets paid for medically necessary diagnosis codes per the LCD's, but they should not assign a code just to get paid, if the code is not accurate.
 
Thank you but I wanted to know if they can code V46.2 even if the physician did not code it. They are supplying the Oxygen and coding the primary diagnosis. We would like them to add this code.
