Care Station, a multi specialty medical practice in Linden, NJ, is seeking A certified medical coder with the following qualities:
- At least two years of coding experience in a primary care and/or multispecialty practice. CPC certification is required.
- Performs a comprehensive review of the electronic chart and assigns and sequences CPT/HCPCS/ICD-9-CM codes to diagnoses and procedures for documented information.
- Advanced knowledge of medical terminology, abbreviations, techniques and minor surgical procedures; anatomy and physiology; major disease processes; pharmacology; and the metric system to identify specific clinical findings, to support existing diagnoses, or substantiate listing additional diagnoses in the medical record.
- Skill in correlating generalized observations/symptoms (vital signs, lab results, medications, etc.) to a stated diagnosis to assign the correct ICD-9-CM code.
- Extensive knowledge of official coding conventions and rules established by the American Medical Association (AMA), and the Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) for assignment of diagnostic and procedural codes.
