Hope someone can help. A Plastic Surgeon is coding 64450 Peripheral Nerve blocks for Post Op pain with procedure codes that have an NCCI edit where a 59 modifier is allowed to show that it is a separate procedure.
The Plastic Surgeon is also considered to be the "Director of Anesthesiology" for her clinic. She has a CRNP providing IV Sedation for procedures and then she is performing the nerve blocks in addition to the surgical procedures she performs.
The record should document that the surgeon "requests" the nerve block and the surgeon does have this documented; but it is basically the surgeon requesting "herself" to perform the nerve block
Is this allowed ?
