Need to bill and code colonoscopy w/ bx,started in one office, finished in another because of power outage.. Procedure was started in the first office..Do I bill proc 2 x, once w modifier 53? and once w modifier 76? Anesthesia was given in both locations,by a separate anesthesiologist..Do i bill that 2 x as well? or just forget about the first attempt and bill for the second one only? Thanks for any help you can offer.

Your claim should reflect exactly what happened- i.e. initial procedure had to be discontinued-modifier-53 would be correct and procedure had to be repeated at another location by same physician-modifier 76. Do you actually do the billing for the anesthesiologist? Normally they have their own staff that does the billing but I don't know about your particular situation. At any rate, he(she) provided anesthesia services on both occasions, so that physician claim for both would need to be there, in my opinion.
