how do you code for a re-exploration of rt chest, sternotomy w/ bp after a mvr for po bleed? the exploration code 35820 doesn't include bp.

How does it not include bp? Maybe I'm not following. Anytime my surgeon has done a re-exploration of the chest for valve replacement/repair, or CABG ect I use 35820. I don't believe 33530 would work because based on your question it doesn't seem like it was a re-operation. I think 35820 is the best option. Maybe someone out there has a better suggestion? I'm always up for learning something new!
 
I have to agree with Julie. I also use 35820 if they have to go back in for post op hem. with dx of 998.11. The only exception would be if they has to replace a graft or do another graft. 33530 would not be used because it states more than a month after orginal surgery.
