Wondering if there is any guidance on coding positive covid-19 diagnosis. We would previously code from the lab results however with the new update that came out from the CDC on April 1, 2025 it states "COVID-19 infection (infection due to SARS-CoV-2) (a) Code only confirmed cases. Code only a confirmed diagnosis of the 2019 novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19) as documented by the provider. For a confirmed diagnosis, assign code U07.1, COVID-19."
Wondering if this is something that needs to be documented in the Assessment and Plan or if it can be pulled from somewhere else within the encounter like a phone call from nursing or a note from the provider to call patient. This is for RHC Family Med Clinic.
