Hello,

I have been wondering how you code for a patient that has DM II and has retinopathy secondary to the diabetes and also chrocnic kidney disease (CKD) stage II seconday to the diabetes.
I would have to code 250.50 and 362.01 for the retinopathy (per ICD-9 guidelines)
and 250.40 with 585.02 for the CKD. However, can I have two DX codes (250.50 and 250.40) for the diabetes for one DOS on the claim form? that seems odd to me.

I looked to see if there was a code that would include both retinopathy and CKD, but couldn't find one. Can anyone help? I would appreciate it!
