Is it reasonable to have both a diagnosis of ESRD (on dialysis) and Acute Renal Failure. Coding both 585.6 and 584.9?
Any assistance is greatly appreciated.
 
Yes actually in the ICD 9 guidelines--Section I B. General Coding Guidelines 10. this is an example. You code the acute condition first and then the chronic.
