I would appreciate any help in clarifying the rules for our providers regarding exactly when it is appropriate to add an E/M code to a visit that is scheduled as an IUD insertion.
We've given guideline to our clinicians, but some continue to struggle and I was hoping to find some documentation online that may help clarify. Examples would be most helpful.
Thanks

No examples, but when I worked in OBGYN I remember going on and on with my providers about this. I believe the only way to bill an additional E/M for evaluation and explaining risks and complications is if it is not on the same day of the procedure, because that is a part of the procedure..... The place I currently work at also bills it this way.
