Which code would you use for a 2 hour session by a physician (not a psychiatrist) counseling a patient who has become opioid dependent due to a medical condition?

History of illness and plan for intervention and rehab discussed.

Thanks!

Look at 99408-99409. Read the heading prior "Counseling Risk Factor Reduction and Behavior Intervention". I don't have any experience with 99408-99409 but it sounds like an E/M can also be coded (with mod -25) if significant and separately identifiable. Just my thoughts...

I thought about those codes, but they say "structured screening (AUDIT,DAST)". Since neither of those tests were done, nor any others that I could tell, I discarded them as possible answers. Having said that, I'm not an expert on this issue (substance abuse) either. Maybe someone who is will post here soon...
