For professional billing, is it appropriate to code and bill 96127 (brief emotional/behavioral assessment with scoring and documentation) when a PHQ-2 assessment was performed for depression screening? I'm not finding any reference that definitely provides an answer. I would appreciate your advise and/or any resource. Thank you!!

Yes, using 96127 when a PHQ-9 is performed is acceptable. Some payors consider this to be included in a patient CPE, so I'd advise to see what you're payors want when those are performed together.
