I'm a coding consultant for an ED group that is just starting to perform ultrasounds and I'm having difficulty finding a definition or directive for the documentation and/or exam elements for ultrasounds not defined as complete or limited.
For example 76880 - ultrasound, extremity, nonvascular, real time with image documentation.
Would this be the appropriate code to use when inspecting subcutaneous tissue for an abscess on an extremity?
Are there specified anatomical structures that must be identified for assigning this code?
Where can a coder go to find additional specifications for assigning radiology codes that are not included in the general CPT guidelines?
