Wiki Coding HF 428.9 with 428.30?

Hello All!

I could use a little clarity over this and not drive myself nuts...

Can you code HF 428.9 with additional code codes from for example 428.30 ? the coding guidelines state you can code 428.0 the the other 428 codes when applicable and documented by the physician. but what of the 428.9? I can't seem to fine supporting info.

If you have the documentation to support Diastolic Heart Failure, there would not be a need to report the unspecified HF as well. You would only code CHF in addition to the DHF to show more specificity, if it was documented as such. I hope that helps. Thanks!
