Does the CPMA certification qualify someone to do CPT coding reviews/audits of medical records. Or can only someone with a CPC certification perform these reviews/audits? If anyone is aware of any guidance outlining these requirements I'd appreciate it if you could share that with me. Thank you!

In general, certifications and qualifications are related, but not necessarily overlapping. I've encountered many a certified coder who were not qualified to code surgeries, and some people who were qualified, but did not have certification. My personal opinion is that most people with a certification will be at least qualified for an entry level position related to that certification. My employer requires everyone doing any aspect of coding to have either CPC or AHIMA. Most of the positions do not require any further specialty certification, but some employees choose to do so.

What an employer requires for a specific job is solely a decision by that employer. One job may require their auditors to have CPC. Another may require CPC and CPMA. Another may not accept AAPC credentials at all, and only take AHIMA. It is up to the employer what (if any) certification is required.
