Wiki Coding Summary required on a chart

For an IP or OBS chart, is a coding summary required? Once a chart is coded using the chart, is it necessary to place that summary in there? We don't have a system that will allow it to happen automatically and each one will have to be printed out and scanned in. Wondering if it is required or just preferred?
