Hello everyone! I am looking for some guidance on coding SVT in the office setting. The provider documented history of SVT. I would normally not question that diagnosis, however, I print a daily member summary from the health plan for them to review prior to seeing the patient, and on that she agreed to the condition of SVT. This is when I queried her as to whether we should code the condition as active or history of. Her reply was that SVT can come back at any time, just like A-fib and if the patient is in SVT currently, they would be in the hospital. I don't see any guidelines on this in the code book. We code A-fib as a current condition, even if controlled, wouldn't the same be done for SVT?

Good afternoon. In my opinion, yes, SVT would be coded as a current condition, even if it is controlled with a pacemaker/defibrillator. We capture this code frequently in our clinics, even if the patient is not currently in SVT.
