Is there a test that you all utilize when hiring coders?

It really depends on the employer. I have done it before when hiring employees but only if there were multiple candidates and it was another way for me to make a decision. The place I am currently working at did not make me do one. It will all depend.

For the first time, I am hiring a remote coder. I will be using a coding evaluation as part of my decision for the best candidate. I never used such an evaluation for someone working on site. This specific position is mostly coding E/M services and I want someone strong in those specific skills. I took 4 outpatient visit notes, 1 inpatient visit note and asking for visit level and ICD10. Also 20 question multiple choice basic medical terminology.
