I'm wondering if anyone is billing UA's (81002) separately from the E/M, and if so, are you considering the UA as a point in the Medical Decision Making of the E/M. I've heard rumors from AUA members that they have been audited for excessive billing of UA's (not meeting criteria for medical necessity) and experienced recoveries as a result. Furthermore, I'm looking for clarification if a provider performs (in the office setting) and bills a "procedure" (cysto, US, PVR, UA) separately from the E/M, can it be credited for points in the Medical Decicion Making compenent of the E/M level. Thanks.
