We have 2 physcians in our practice on is an internal medicine and the other is family practice and sports medicine certified, my question is that the 1st provider saw the pt for a problem then sent her to the sports medicine physcian for an injection. How do we code this scenario.Can the 1st provider get paid and then the 2nd provider get paid for injecting her..pls advise

Depends on how they are credentialed.

IM and FP are different specialties so their billing should not affect each other.

No. No modifier is necessary. These should be going on different claim forms under different provider numbers.

It is really no different than if the patient went to say an ortho at another facility before they came to your facility and saw the FP. The claims will not kick off each other even if they are the exact same coding because you have different specialties, they are not seen as the same provider.
