I am confused about the PDX. Pt came in with C diff colitis. Pt is HIV positive. The only statement in the record is "colitis in a patient with HIV". MD did not state colitis "due to" HIV. Coding Clinics from 4th qtr 1997 show similar cases, HIV positive pt came in with diarrhea and dehydration. States to code 042 as PDX. But coding clinic from 4th qtr 1994 states that if the MD does not clearly state due to HIV, then code the 042 as secondary. It was my understanding that we only code 042 if condition being treated is stated as due to HIV.
Thanks :)
