Colonoscopy Question

I am new at coding a Colonoscopy. I have a patient that had an EGD and a Colonoscopy. The Colonocopy was attempted but due to poor preparation it was terminated. Can I still code the Colonoscopy?

Thanks,
Jenny

Yes you can.

If you are coding for the physician you would code the appropriate colon code with a 53 modifier and then the EGD.

If you are coding for the facility, you would code the appropriate colon cpt coe with a 73 or 74 modifier and then the EGD. The 73 mod is if the proc was discontinued prior to anesthesia and the 74 mod is if it was discontinued after the anesthesia was applied.

Hope this helps.
