If the intent was a full colon and the doctor could not progress further due to poor prep or other reasons, then i would use 45378 with a 53 modifier. If the intent was just a sigmoidoscopy, then code the 45330. It all depends on the report.
 
I agree. Do not code a sigmoidoscopy if the pt. was prepped and intended for a colonoscopy. Use the discontinued procedure modifier 53, as this is the most accurate reflection of what was done, and intended.
