How would I this diagnostic colonoscopy. The doctor using 'colonoscopy' are his procedure performed. Doctor starts with the rectum and up 12cm to the distal sigmoid and stops due to the resection sight. Then the doctor finishes the colonoscopy through the colostomy sight covering the descending colon all the way through to the cecum. Patient is a third party insurance. I called his office and they seem to want to use cpt 45378--which would be wrong I would think. (I coded cpt 44388 for the colonoscopy through the stoma and 45300-52 for the proctorsigmoidoscopy.) Is this correct? Just want to be sure.
Thanks Diann
