Patient was consulted for constipation only. Colonoscopy was diagnosed IBS-C (K58.1). Mcare denied IBS-C as not payable on fee schedule. Would it be ok to stick with the sign and symptom in this case (constipation-k58.1) and not the definitive diagnosis?
I did read an article to put IBS w/out diarrhea (K58.9) as primary and Constipation unsp. (K59.00) second. (those are both payable diagnosis) ..but has the combined code IBS-C.
How would you all code it?
