Hello. Like to get clarification on the following. If patient is seen for colposcopy due to abnormal pap - do you use the path DX finding for the colposcopy procedure? Path confirms CIN II; would this be the DX for the procedure - or use the DX for the reason for the colposcopy being performed?
 
Either would be correct. I do not see a reason to wait for the final pathology when you have a justifying diagnosis for why the colposcopy/biopsy was performed. I only recommend waiting for pathology report if it would affect your CPT code. For example, skin lesion excisions, or any CPT that requires a specific malignancy diagnosis.
