I'm coding complex repair of the arm and the amount of area that has been repaired is 26 cm and wasn't sure if I would code that as: 13121, 13122 x 5 units or would I use the add-on code 13122 (ea additional 5 cm or less) 5 different times? The insurance company is United HealthCare.

Thanks!

Complex Arm Repair with Add-on

You would code 13121 with the add-on code, 13122 x4. The 13121 includes a 7.5 cm measurement. 13122 x4 will give you the additional cm you need for the full length of the physician's repair.

This question was also posted in at least one other forum thread. I answered it there.

You use the term "area" and then say it measured 26 cm. AREA is reported in sq cm (length x width). Repairs are based only on length. Torilinne's figures are correct If ... Big, Red IF ... the LENGTH of the repair was 26 cm.
