Just looking for some stats on compliance offices. Want to do soem number crunching.

Are you in a physician/NPP compliance office which does chart reviews on the providers? How often are they done (quarterly, annually)? How many staff members are in the office? And How many providers are assigned to each staff member?

Thanks for any information in advance! ;)

Good morning Mary,

I am a Coding Compliance Coordinator, we have over 80 physicians and in my department we split the number of physicians between three of us.

We do both office and hospital auditing post claim submittal. We conduct our audits every three months. We email our physicians a spreadsheet going over the EM elements, ICD-9 codes and pertinent details regarding their billing and documentation style.

If any of our physicians fall below a certain percentage in either office or hospital we pay a visit to that physician and have an opportunity to talk about their struggles and educate them on compliance.

A compliance plan does not have to be perfect but it has to be effective and able to prove that close monitoring and education are being given regularly.

There are 7 steps to a successful compliance plan, here is an article that may help you, I have provided the link below. I may not be able to give you all my "secrets" but I hope that I can guide you in the right direction. Good luck!
