When is an infusion considered a concurrent versus a subsequent infusion? For example, 1st therapeutic infusion starts at 10:00 am and stops at 11:15 am; second therapeutic infusion starts at 11:05 am and stops at 11:50 am. Since the second infusion started before the first infusion stop time but continued after the first infusion was complete is it coded as a concurrent or a subsequent infusion?

I am coding ER for the facility.
 
A concurrent infusion is a new drug/substance infused at the same time as another drug/substance. It is not time based and does not need to be infused at the exact same time as the other therapeutic infusion.

Your second infusion would be a concurrent infusion if the same site was used for both med infusions.

Thank you very much for your answer. There was a controversy going around where I work and everyone seemed to have their own opinion. Your answer makes the most sense, but I wanted get it confirmed by other coders!
