HI all - Would anyone know why the service code and the ICD-10 code don't work together (it was CSF specimen on a flow case) - I received the following message from my supervisor:

On this case we recd a rejection on the code 88188 and diag. code R83.8:

Diagnosis and procedure code combination non-specific or unrelated.

Any thoughts?

While not unspecified, the R83.8 lacks specifics for a diagnosis. If the diagnosis rendered is not an available choice you will need to appeal with the interpretation to show this.

Thank you so much!! I never had an issue before with using that code so I was very confused - the patient does have clinical history that can be used as to why the CSF was submitted so I'll go ahead and use that code
