What is the correct E&M code and place of service for the following scenario? Cardiologist is asked to see a patient in the hospital who is an inpatient. Patient is then transferred to skilled nursing unit with in the same hospital and the cardiologist is asked to continue providing follow up care, i.e. managing meds etc. Do we continue to use subsequent hospital codes - 99231, 99232, 99233 - or do we utilize the subsequent nursing facility codes - 99307, 99308, 99309,99310? What place of service should be used? Any help, including documentation to back up the correct codes, will be greatly appreciated.
