I am needing some help understanding the OB global. my main question is when the patient is coming in for the first time, wether established or new pt. will the first OB visit be billed with an E/M code with ICD V72.40, or if the pregnancy is confirmed that same visit do you billed under the global with ICD V22.2? there has been some debate in our practice about this. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Ivonne

The global ob package starts when the actual ob record is started. If a patient comes in and the visit is confirming a pregancy test and the actual ob record has not been started then that visit should be coded as an office visit with the dx of positive pregnancy test.

Thank you everyone for your help. Thank you Lisa for the website, it completely answered what i was needing to know.

Ivonne :)
