Pt comes into ER the ER calls the Peds department to consult the pt. The pt is an established pt with the Peds Dept. Does the pediatrician bill an ER visit or a consult?

You bill an ER level if the physician is requested to see the patient by the ER provider. You physician will not send a formal written report back to the ER provider. The MCM has a section regarding consults and addresses your question specifically. The answer they give is to use the ER level for both providers.
