Can I bill a hospital consult and I&D at bedside at the same time?
Thanks.

Be careful with the word "Consult" as these are not paid any longer

If your doctor sees a patient and performs I&D at beside, an E/M and the I&D can both be billed.

Just because your doctor is asked to see a patient, does not mean that it is a consultation.

CMS and most private payers no longer pay for "Consultation" codes due to them being billed inaccurately and coder education failed.

Chose a code from the initial inpatient set of codes.

He did a full eval on the patient before doing the procedure. We are mostly office based so not much is done in the hospital unless its a sx that wasn't approved for the surgery center...just so you know where Im coming from with the question.
The patient does have medicare.
Thanks for your reply.
