I'm not sure what to do in this case. I wonder if anyone else has had this problem. I submitted an office consult (CPT 99244) to the patient's liability insurance (auto). After I received payment from them I submitted the balance to the patient's health insurance. The claim was denied because CPT 99244 is invalid. Can I resubmit a corrected claim using CPT 99204? I'm not sure if I can change the original code since we already submitted it to auto. I appreciate any assistance ahead of time.

Some will say yes change the code and some will say no. You need to make the decision on what you think is correct. I say no do not change the code as there is no true equivalent to the consult code.
