hello everyone,
if we see a pt and the doc at the end of the visit wants the pt to come
back in a week for a cystoscopy can i still bill a consult with a mod for
dec to do sx? or is that a new pt? i know and understand the "intent of the
referring" and the 3 R's...and from the documentation a consult criteria is met.
but my question is..at the end of the visit if the specialist decides the pt needs to come back for sx does that make it a np visit?
thank you for your insight!

I agree with Debra.

But the procedure isn't going to be done for a week so you wouldn't need the 57 modifier.

ok..just if its done same day correct?

You would use 57 anytime the initial decision for surgery is made within the global period, which starts 24 hours before the surgery is done on procedures that have global periods.
