dr wants to bill for a consult when a patient was post op tonsillectomy; dr was out of town and talked on the phone to ER dr. and advised er dr as to the course of treatment. Patient was admitted to hospital.

help please

Not only is it not a consult, you can't bill any defined CPT code at all for this phone call.

He didn't see the patient, he didn't talk to the patient, he wasn't even face to face with the other doctor.

You could try a 99499 and submit his documentation but I would be shocked if they paid anything.

Good luck,
